High Carb Day - Friday

Hi! Today is High Carb Friday! Here are our favorite high carb foods:


My favorite high carb food is fries.

I love fries. They are pretty high in carbs, and make my blood go all over the place.

Favorite high carb food: Bagels
Bagels are so delicious.  I love them with cream cheese, sliced cheese, olives...yum.  Anyways, usually somebody can just pick up a bagel and eat it right?  Well, if you have diabetes, you can't.  You need to:

  1. Check your blood sugar.
  2. If your blood sugar is high you need to give yourself more insulin
  3. Give insulin for the bagel
You will have to deal with high blood sugars for a couple of hours afterwards.

Fave high carb food..... Pizza!!!!!
Pizza, as everyone knows, is SUPER delicious! From the creamy, melty mozzarella cheese to the spunky tomato sauce and crispy crust...Yum!
Pizza is awesome, except it's harder for T1D's to eat and manage their sugars for it. For all fellow "pumpers", you know that pizza lasts LONG in your body. It will sustain your levels at an above-average number for hours, so you usually have to do a dual-wave bolus. For people on injections, it's also very hard since one insulin injection only lasts about 3 hours in your body. Since pizza lasts for much longer, your insulin doesn't meet up with this high-carb food. Your levels would do a little dip and then an hour later go high!!!! (Crazy, right?) 
Anyways, even though high carb foods are a little harder to manage for us Type One Diabetics, we still get through it and end up with a glad smile on our faces and a full stomach! :-) :P

My favorite high   carbs   is.......  DOUGHNUTS!!!!!!!!
Their all different shapes and flavors, but i like choc. breading, choc. frosting and sprinkles!!!!       It has a lot of carbs  so you have to get a HUGE shot.

Low Carb Week- Day 3: Steak

Hi everyone!
Today I'm posting about one of my FAVORITE low-carb foods....steak!
I love steak! Especially filets...Have you ever tried Longhorn steak with white cheddar and bacon?
Oh my goodness....That is the good stuff! Steak is almost no carbs; which is AWESOME because it is so delicious. It also comes in different shapes and recipes: T-bone, Rib-eye, filet mignon, etc! You can have it rare, medium-rare, medium, medium well, and well done. (personally I like mine medium-well and it's safer for kids) Mmm... I'm getting hungry thinking about a tender juicy steak....

Low Carb Week - Day 1: Nuts

Hi!  Monday (today) through Thursday we are going to do Low Carb week.  All of us are going to post about one of our favorite low carb foods.

Day 1: Nuts
I love nuts.  They come in all different kinds, shapes, flavors, and colors.  My favorite is pecans.  Most nuts are low carb, but some are not, so you just have to be careful about what ones you eat.  Here are some ways to eat them:
  • Plain
  • With a sweetner.  Truvia is my favorite low carb sweetner.  If you sprinkle Truvia on top of nuts it adds a sweet flavor. See this blog post for more information about TruviaTruvia Post - Peace. Love. Hope. Diabetes
  • With a nut butter on top (Peanut Butter, Almond Butter, Cashew Butter)

Extra Dessert Delights :-)

Hey guys! As I'm a Type One Diabetic, I know that it's hard to try to eat something sweet for dessert that doesn't have many carbs.  This product as been around for several years, but it's just SO delicious! Extra Dessert Delights Gum is sugar-free gum that tastes exactly like your favorite desserts!!! They are only 1 or 2 grams each, and they come in so many flavors. For example: apple pie (personally this is the best one), rainbow sherbert, lemon squares, etc.
